“I Don’t Know If This is Necessarily The Right Time To Do It…”
Christopher Price: Yeah, big time stuff. They’re pulling the ripcord. They are going with the kid. Drake Maye, 3rd overall pick. I don’t know if this is necessarily the right time to do it, but I think we all understood that it was going to happen sometime this year, and here we are with Drake Maye starting this week against the Houston Texans.
Hardy: So do you think they had a plan, and I mean that like in terms of playing him in week 8-9, that’s what we’re looking at? Or has the plan been so fluid that the entire time there was never a plan in place to put him in like in any specific week?

Christopher Price: There was a plan in place to put him in. I think that was accelerated by his own development as well as Jacoby Brissett’s occasional ineffectiveness. I think it was interesting when we talked to (Jerod) Mayo earlier in the week about Brissett, and all year long he’s been very strong in his language, that Jacoby’s our guy, he’s our number one quarterback. He’s the guy we want back there. When Mayo talked about the offensive line, he said, “I thought they played pretty well. You know they showed some fight. You know, there were some clean pockets.” I read that as a bit of a mild indictment on Brissett’s kind of occasional penchant for holding onto the ball a little too long. For me, that was the first time where we saw Mayo start to backtrack a little bit on his public support. So I think the plan was in place ultimately. The plan was in place. It’s just been accelerated by a couple of different things.
