Malcolm Butler on Super Bowl LII benching: ‘Coach’s decision’
Two-time Super Bowl champion Malcolm Butler joined Felger and Mazz on Wednesday at Radio Row in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX. While on, the guys tried to get and answer out of Butler as to why he didn’t play in Super Bowl LII. However, Butler wasn’t too open about the decision.
Felger: Why didn’t you play?
Malcolm Butler: It was just a coach’s decision.
Felger: So how often you get asked that?
Malcolm Butler: Oh my, three times today!
Felger: So I’m saying, does a day go by, I mean when you run into a Patriots fan isn’t that like the first thing they ask?
Malcolm Butler: No, they tell me about the catch. Then they ask that and then I tell them the same thing I told y’all.
Felger: But it’s the two most talked about things in Patriot history, just about, your interception against the Seahawks and then why you didn’t play against the Eagles. Like it’s 1-2. So people ask you more about the interception more than about the Eagles game?
Malcolm Butler: The interception.
Felger: They do?
Malcolm Butler: Yep.

Mazz: We’ve been on the air for 15 years, the No. 1 question we get, in all walks of life, I had a guy come fix my furnace last week and he before he left the house he said, “Well, how come Malcolm Butler didn’t play in the Super Bowl?”, that’s the honest to God’s truth, and so is there something.
Malcolm Butler: You should’ve told them what Bill Belichick would have told me…do your job.
