Former Celtic says split up Tatum & Brown if they don’t win championship
I always enjoy hearing from players who were a part of the 2008 Celtics team in regards to the current NBA and this year’s Celtics team. There are some parts of the championship team on the staff with Sam Cassell as an assistant and of course the same ownership group. The star players are now Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown who will carry super-max contracts at the beginning of next season and have yet to get over the hump and win an NBA Championship.
One of the players from the 2008 Celtics team joined me to discuss the current Celtics and their chances of winning a championship this year. Glen “Big Baby” Davis was a rookie on that team and mentioned that Paul Pierce was a closer and would hit big shots when it mattered. He went on to say that this Celtics team will get over the hump if Tatum & Brown can find a way to make shots when it matters in clutch situations. He went on to say that if they don’t win a championship this season, the Celtics should look to split up the all-star pairing. He referenced making plays when it matters and when it counts. Something they have both been criticized about their entire career.
He went on to say that the team had to move on from Marcus Smart as he was a streaky player and acquiring Jrue Holiday gave the team another option to help Tatum & Brown in clutch situations. He referenced the front court of Kristaps Porzingins and Al Horford remind him of Kevin Garnet and Kendrick Perkins and how well they complement each other.
Davis also had some interesting comments regarding his former coach and current Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers. He also shared some stories about former teammate Tony Allen and will be hosting a watch party at Kowloon on May 1st.
