Armpits of America: Oklahoma man arrested for homemade parachute jump into Oklahoma River
An Oklahoma man is facing a misdemeanor charge after a daring act of jumping off a bridge with a homemade parachute into the Oklahoma River. The incident occurred on Friday morning around 10 AM, prompting a call to the Oklahoma City police.
A caller had alerted the police about a man spotted on the side of the Exchange Bridge with what appeared to be a homemade parachute. While officers were en route to the scene, the man took the plunge off the bridge.
Police arrived at the scene, making their way through Wheeler Park and onto a bike path to reach the river. As they approached the bridge, they found Zachary Magee swimming in the river. Magee was no stranger to the authorities, having been previously arrested for breaking into an abandoned property on NW 4th and Western.
The officers instructed Magee to swim to the river bank for assistance, but he initially resisted and argued with them. Eventually, he complied and exited the water, where he was arrested and placed near a patrol car to dry off.
Fire rescue boats were deployed to the water and retrieved a large tarp, which the police believed Magee had used as a makeshift parachute. When questioned about the jump, Magee nonchalantly claimed to have performed such stunts “about 15 to 20 times before” and revealed that he does it almost every day because he gets too hot.

He admitted to making multiple parachutes out of tarps but remained silent when asked about their effectiveness.
The man’s actions violated a city ordinance that forbids jumping, diving, or throwing objects off bridges, leading to his arrest.
