Patriots select OL Andrew Stueber 245th overall in 2022 NFL Draft
For their final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Patriots turned to a familiar program and familiar position. They selected Michigan offensive lineman Andrew Stueber in the seventh round, 245th overall.
Stueber mainly played right tackle at Michigan, but did make a couple of starts at right guard and projects as a four-position player in the NFL. He has the size to play across the line at 6-foot-7, 325 pounds.
In 2021, Stueber was one of the best offensive linemen in college football. He was first team All-Big Ten and a second team All-American, and captain a line that won the Joe Moore Award, which is given annually to the best collective offensive line in college football.
This offseason, the Patriots brought back both starting tackles from 2021 in Isaiah Wynn and Trent Brown. Stueber will compete for a depth role along with Justin Herron, Yodny Cajuste, and William Sherman. With Wynn in a contract year, he could have a shot to win the starting left tackle job in 2023.
With the selections of Stueber, Cole Strange, and Chasen Hines, the Patriots have done a lot in this draft to restock their offensive line. This is the fifth time in 23 drafts under Bill Belichick they’ve taken three or more offensive linemen, an the first since 2020. They took four in 2009
