Phil Perry: Keenan Allen makes a ton of sense for a young QB
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Phil Perry explained why Keenan Allen would make a ton sense for the Patriots if they draft a quarterback.
Keenan Allen is a perfect safety net…
Phil Perry: The Chargers are in trouble financially. They need to do some work. Now this could be done probably with a series of restructures. You can do anything with the cap. It’s funny money. But they might be letting go of some big names, including Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Those are the two receivers that are relatively big money guys that could help them with their quote unquote, cap issues. But I’m looking at (Keenan) Allen first and foremost, because this guy is coming off a 108 catch season and in four of the last five seasons he has had 100 plus catches. And he’s not a downfield explosive threat. But this is, in my mind, sort of the definition of a security blanket for a young quarterback. Route runner and separates. Just understands how to play the position.
Scott Zolak: I like 6’3. 6’4 guys that pluck the football like fingertip catches.
Phil Perry: He’s sort of a big slot, right? That’d be great for a young quarterback.
Scott Zolak: He’s not as tough as Anquan Bolden, like Bolden was a freaking beast in the slot for big guy. But yeah, I would say he’s more timid than him. More finesse.
Phil Perry: Much more finesse. Definitely.
Scott Zolak: So I think that’s your market. Him and Mike Williams.
Phil Perry: It’s not going to be a second round pick the way it might be for somebody like Tee Higgins. But maybe it’s a fourth. You’re not going to love this part of it though. He’s about to be 32 years old.
Zolak and Beetle: Ughhhhhhhhh.
