Mike Reiss: Three Good Things and Three Bad Things Eliot Wolf Has Done
On Tuesday’s edition of Zolak and Bertrand, Mike Reiss who covers the Patriots for ESPN, joined the show. While discussing the performance of Eliot Wolf so far this season as being the man in charge of the front office for the Patriots, Reiss presented the three best things Wolf has done, and also the three worst things that Wolf has done.
“Not Doing Enough…”
Bertrand: Give us the three up, and three down three. This is based on a caller’s question last week asking Mike, at the end of the hour, on why should we have any faith in Eliot Wolf to lead the Patriots front office?
Mike Reiss: Okay. So I think what I’ll do is I’ll list all three at the same time and then you guys can fight back, push back, and then do both sides.
Bertrand: The floor is yours Mike, go right ahead.
Mike Reiss: Well, in my objective opinion, drafting Drake Maye, retaining the team’s top free agents from the off season, and number three, managing Matthew Judon. It was a complicated situation. Obviously hard for me to say that when the pass rush isn’t great here , but knowing that Matthew Judon probably wasn’t going to be willing to play for his salary to trade him for a third round pick. Those were the three best things that I put on his list of things to do.
Bertrand: So I fear that those resigning may end up looking bad. I don’t care to criticize him and get all over him for bringing guys back. You got to fill out the roster. You need players, but I just don’t know if it’s going to work out. I also think that it wasn’t enough that just bringing back your old guys. If you’re just bringing back your own guys, is there really an evaluation there? You got to stick to the guys who are already here and are willing to play here.
Mike Reiss: So I think there’s something to that. So that brings me to my three down, like, shall we get to it?
Bertrand: Yeah.
Mike Reiss: Okay. So the worst things that Eliot Wolf has done. The offensive line. So his two free agent signings, not even on the team anymore. His two draft picks, third round-Caedan Wallace. Fourth round- Layden Robinson. Not doing enough. It is not for lack of effort because they’ve definitely brought players in off the practice squad, and signed guys. But the execution has been poor.
