Marc Bertrand: Could The Patriots Win Their Next Two Games?
On Monday’s edition of Zolak and Bertrand, the guys opened up the show by reacting to the Miami Dolphins 23-15 win over the hands of LA Rams on Monday Night Football. With the Patriots facing the Rams this coming Sunday, then traveling down to Miami the following week. This led Marc Bertrand to raise the question, could the Patriots end up winning their next two games?
“This Is What Happens When You Look Like A Competent Team…”
Bertrand: Miami thinks that with their win last night, they may have salvaged their season. They think that I just know from what they were saying post-game…
Zolak: Well It’s been so bad for them. Look at the trend and where it was heading.
McKone: Yeah.
Zolak: Like people thought they were going to go out there and get smoked. West Coast game, they’re not going to respond well. Monday night, you’re sitting around all day, and they made the plays they had to make. There was that sequence where they turned it over three straight times. I’m texting you guys to, Tua blows.
Bertrand: That’s true.
McKone: It’s like the turnovers in that game were crazy.
Zolak: He blows.
Bertrand: So, listen, I know that Miami thinks that they’ve turned around their season now as a three-win team.
Zolak: Yeah.
Bertrand: Whoop-di-freakin-do with your three wins. But the league has been so bad this year, that three wins right now has you a couple of games back of teams that are in the playoffs. So right now the teams that are on the bubble, and in the hunt would be the Colts. They’re four and six. They’re the first team out of the playoffs. The Bengals are also four and six by tiebreakers. They would be the second team out, even though they have the same record as the Indianapolis Colts. Then right after them, by all the tiebreaking measures, the Dolphins are the 10th seed in the AFC, which means they are in within striking distance of potentially catching the Chargers, or the Broncos. So they think they revitalize their season there. The Patriots, by the way, have the same amount of wins, and I watch last night and I say, “Man, the Pats could beat this team.” They they played them tight in the first go around. Granted the circumstances, but still, even with Tua, does this team look that much better than the team you saw beat New England?
Zolak: No. No, they don’t.
Bertrand: Could the Patriots beat them in two weeks?
Zolak: Yeah, they can. They surely can. But I don’t know though. If Tua is right, their talent outside should trump anything you put out there.
Bertrand: You watched last night, and you watched what is now the four and five Rams, and the three and six Dolphins, which are the next two opponents for the New England Patriots.
Zolak: That left tackle for the Rams is not good.
Bertrand: Because they won on Sunday, and because Drake Maye was resilient on Sunday. Am I nuts?
McKone: Are you doing this right now?
Bertrand: Am I nuts to think, you know what they could win the next two games? They’ve got a home game this week against a West Coast team that I thought was going to be a lot better than what they were. I had them on the card this week. I said, No, that line is crazy. The Rams are getting healthy. They’re going to score points and wrong. They didn’t even find the end zone.
Zolak: They couldn’t get in.
Bertrand: They didn’t get to the end zone. So, I don’t know, man. This is what happens when you look like a competent team. When you have coaching. When you have guys that make plays, this is what happens. You win and you start to establish that you’re not the worst team in the league anymore. The Patriots are not the worst team. I think it’s pretty evident that they’re not the worst. Their teams you could look at and say, “I’m glad I’m not them.” I look at the next two games as very winnable.
