Marc Bertrand: The pressure that comes from Drake Maye being good
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand explained the pressure that comes from Drake Maye being good.
It’s different when the 3rd overall pick looks like this…
Marc Bertrand:
Do you know what’s now happening because Drake Maye is good? We are screaming from the rooftops that the Patriots better get their bleep together. That Jerod Mayo better be good or Robert Kraft needs to fire him. And Eliot Wolf, you better be improved at drafting next spring or you should be out on the street. You’re fired, the head coach is fired. You need to start spending money. There is pressure that is created, that if Drake Maye suck, they don’t have it. If he is just blah, if he’s not any good, we’re not able to create this pressure. Fans are not able to create this pressure. Get your crap together, Patriots. Look at the opportunity in front of you. It only exists because you have the quarterback and now the clock is ticking. Tick tock. Put him on the clock.
Scott Zolak:
I’ve talked about this where I get pissed off when they lose. I come in and I’m nasty on Mondays. Three weeks. I feel good coming away from the stadium because we got the quarterback and he’s carrying you somewhat. But he makes mistakes. And if you turn it over, you’re going to lose. I’m with Phil Perry on this. Get him help now.
Marc Bertrand:
So, let’s play the alternate game. Say they didn’t draft Maye. They decided to go another route and take JJ McCarthy. He looks pretty good. He looks like he’s OK. Does a deeper pick like JJ McCarthy, be honest, create the kind of pressure that a third overall pick does when he goes in and instantly looks good? They’re just not the same thing.
