Joe Mazzulla details the latest with Jayson Tatum’s right patella tendinopathy
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla detailed what Jayson Tatum’s recovery from right patella tendinopathy looks like.
Tatum got a workout in today…
Marc Bertrand:
What is rehab like for when you have right patella tendinopathy? Which Jayson Tatum is dealing with. What happens now?
Tim McKone:
Nice job on the pronunciation there.
Joe Mazzulla:
I mean, listen, he has a great camp around him and is constantly taking care of himself, whether it’s treatment, whether it’s lifting, you know, whether it’s workouts before or after. He’s in a good place, got a good workout today, and you know him and the people around him do a great job of managing it.
Phil Perry:
Joe, I know you’re the kind of coach who, even when you’re dealing with something, you might necessarily not want to be dealing with like Jayson Tatum being out of the lineup, you’re trying to make the most of that situation and you’re trying to find a way to make your team better regardless. What can you learn from your team when somebody like Jayson Tatum, who we know very rarely misses time, is out? What can you figure out about your team in those moments?
Joe Mazzulla:
Yeah, you definitely don’t want that. You want to be as healthy as you can, but I think that’s part of the, you know what the first question was, the intensity and the grind of an NBA season. Different challenges are always presented. You know, just because of the year and anytime you have guys out, it’s an opportunity to just continue to grow your identity, continue to find different ways to win. To me I have kind of said it all along, you know whether guys are in or out, the expectation is to win and the expectation is to play a high level. So, that’s a testament to the guys in the locker room and their Character and professionalism. Regardless of who’s in, who’s out, you know, you got to win. You got to do what it takes to win and so the guys take pride in that.
