Marc Bertrand: This was a step forward for the Patriots
On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand made it clear that yesterday’s win over the Bears was a step forward for the Patriots.
This coaching staff may have a clue…
Marc Bertrand:
From the perspective of seeing something on tape, drawing up a wrinkle in the game plan going into the game and knowing you’re going to do that… have we seen that from this team this season?
Scott Zolak:
Nope. I saw new things on both defense and offense in this game.
Marc Bertrand:
And this is why I feel like this was a step forward kind of day for them. They’ve got coaches that might just have a clue. That have the ability to gameplan and have the ability to find weaknesses in the other team and use their crappy roster that they’ve been handed to the best of their ability. They did that yesterday. You’ve got to maximize what you’ve got on the roster and yesterday felt like a day that they did that and that to me is good coaching. They finally had their act together.
Scott Zolak:
When this year’s over, Mayo’s going to sit down and look at it and self-scout because he’s a smart guy. Like what do we do well and what do we not do well? I’m sitting here and observing my coaches. Here you are 10 weeks in, maybe there’s some coach separation going on here. Look at who came up with that… maybe it wasn’t even DeMarcus Covington or Jerod Mayo. Maybe it was Mike Pellegrino, who knows. It could’ve been Dont’a Hightower for all we know. Who do I want to stay and who do I want to go… meaning coaches. You’re dealing with 20 and you don’t always retain all 20. That’s very rare. You know, one guy will leave and one guy will go and one guy’s a one year guy and you might want to make a change at some point. This is the point where 10 games in we start to see who’s having an impact on our team.
