Marc Bertrand: Bill Belichick speaking with UNC isn’t a smokescreen
On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand explained why doesn’t think Bill Belichick speaking with the University of North Carolina is a smokescreen.
Nobody wants Belichick at this point…
Scott Zolak:
Mike Reiss was on with Toucher and Hardy this morning. He said he could see Bill Belichick going to UNC.
Marc Bertrand:
Why is that shocking? That to me isn’t shocking. Nobody in the league wants him. Nobody in the league wanted him a year ago.
Scott Zolak:
That could be a big part of this. The other person I spoke to said it’s a smokescreen.
Marc Bertrand:
That’s not a smoke screen. You think going for the UNC job is going to have other teams in the league be like oh geez, we need to call Bill right now.
Scott Zolak:
This isn’t coming from an owner’s pocket. This is endowment money. This is a big-time school with big-time backing and big-time facilities.
Marc Bertrand:
Great. They all have big time facilities now.
Scott Zolak:
But he doesn’t need to wait 3 years for a new facility. It’s turnkey.
Marc Bertrand:
All right, you can try and sell us on all the reasons why he would just so badly want to go to UNC of all schools.
Scott Zolak:
I want him to be in the NFL.
Marc Bertrand:
We all do. But the NFL doesn’t want him, and he knows it. He knows he’s either done with coaching or he takes the UNC job if they offer it, which for them they’re willing to offer because they’re apparently into big, splashy moves, not hiring like the next visionary coach for their program. They’re going with an old guy.
