Marc Bertrand: Bill Belichick thought he knew everything, the Krafts don’t
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand explained why he doesn’t fault the Krafts for reaching out for help when it came to Drake Maye’s development.
What do you when crap hits the fan?
Marc Bertrand:
Bill Belichick had all the answers.
Scott Zolak:
He did. So did Mac Jones, who called Alabama for help.
Marc Bertrand:
He had all the answers. He thought one of the answers would be Joe Judge and Matt Patricia. He thought that was a great answer. That’s how you end up. That’s how you end up doing stupid things like that. It’s when you believe you have every answer and you’re not smart enough to know what you don’t know and that’s how you end up making ridiculous decisions like that. Bill Belichick was never smart enough to realize the things that he didn’t know, or the things that he had underestimated the difficulty of, like calling an offense in an NFL game. Calling plays is different from defense.
Scott Zolak:
It’s one thing to call plays. Any coach can call plays. It’s what do you do when the bleep hits the fan. What adjustments do you have when oh, our whole week of game planning isn’t working. We need to go to something else. They didn’t have that answer. And the whole team went to hell for it. If you were hands off for over 2 decades and you didn’t get into football and you didn’t have checks and balances like Mr. Kraft says and now all of a sudden you ruined a first-round pick in Mac Jones. And now you think you nailed this pic in Drake Maye. Would it be right for them to make sure we don’t make the mistake that we made last time?
