Beetle: Bill Belichick is coaching like he’ll be back next year
On Tuesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc Bertrand explained how Bill Belichick is coaching as if he is returning to the Patriots next season following the team’s 27-17 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.
He must think he’s here next year…
Bertrand: The way they coached that game on Sunday here, makes me believe that Bill believes his employment is secure for 2024.
Zolak: Whoa.
Bertrand: Yup.
Zolak: I know what you’re thinking.
Bertrand: I’m going to minimize injuries. I don’t need more real players that I consider in, from his perspective, real players on this team. Cole Strange would certainly qualify. I don’t need more guys getting hurt. I’m going to protect the guys that are out here playing as best I can. And oh, by the way, I don’t think I’m winning this damn game against Kansas City anyway. Let’s get this thing over with and get out of here, and I continue to hang on to a good pick going into next year.
Zolak: Players coach, huh? Players-type coach. Got your back, guys. You guys are going down. I got your back.
Bertrand: I mean, not as defense. The defense has every right to be pissed at this, because they have gone out and played hard for weeks now.
Zolak: Well, what if Bill went for down there inside the four, and handed them the ball with first the goal. That would have done well for hiss defense the seven points, then they’re in the mid-thirties..
Bertrand: They got a pick I mean they got a turnover late right?
Zolak: Ya.
Bertrand: The defense is their their best unit. I mean that’s stating the obvious. Bill wants to play more defense than anything else with this team because that’s where they’re best, except you have to score points when you’re down three scores. What are you doing? You’ve got to score. You’re got to go out and play. But I looked at that and thought, he must think he’s here next year. Is it like full-blown throwing a game? No. They weren’t going to win the game anyway. But he’s trying to make it as painless as possible.
