Revs’ Peay checks in with Zolak & Bertrand before Do-or-Die Game 2
Will the Revolution suffer a first-round playoff exit for the second time in three years, this time at the hands of the Philadelphia Union, or can New England extend its postseason run to a winner-take-all Game 3 this weekend?
We’ll find out tonight at 7:00 p.m. when the Revs welcome the Union to Gillette Stadium for what is sure to be a contentious and physical Game 2 battle. New England needs a victory to send the best-of-three series back to Subaru Park for a potential Game 3 on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Revolution Interim Head Coach Clint Peay took a break from his prematch routine to check in with Zo, Beetle, and Hardy and break down the Revs’ approach to tonight’s possible elimination match.
“This team has always done well at home, has always been competitive in these sorts of environments at home, and I expect nothing less tonight from the group,” Peay said of New England’s impressive home form, which includes 14 consecutive home playoff games without a loss.
“Certainly, yes, we realize our backs are up against the wall, and we need to win the game. So, I expect everyone to be all hands on deck, fully committed to the effort of trying to get that result.”
To keep their season alive, the Revolution cannot fall behind like they did in Game 1, especially by multiple goals. Coach Peay was disappointed with the response to conceding first and hopes to see a better response if they fall behind tonight.
“When things go bad, something happens. We want to remain disciplined and focused and have more resilience in those moments, and I think we kind of lost the plot there a little bit,” Peay said. “So, that’s more the emphasis. That’s not necessarily something about training, but just the mental side of the game and how can you stay engaged, disciplined and focused.”
