Zolak & Bertrand: Would you trade Bill Belichick for Brian Daboll?
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, we discussed the possibility of trading Bill Belichick for Brian Daboll.
Beetle is for it, Zo not so much…
Beetle: What a wonderful idea. Would you trade Bill (Belichick) straight up for (Brian) Daboll?
Scott Zolak: No. I don’t know if Daboll is a head coach.
Beetle: Oh, yes he is. Yes, he is. And that’s why I don’t think he’s getting fired. I can’t believe you and you love that guy.
Scott Zolak: I love Daboll. I keep in contact with him.
Beetle: What tells you that he isn’t a head coach just because they’re losing this year?
Scott Zolak: I don’t know. I’m not close to it. I’ve never been close to them, like, as far as covering him as a head coach. All I can go by is what the Giants records are.
T-Bone: Could you make that trade and then make him your offensive coordinator?
Beetle: No. Because he’s not going to accept the trade if he’s going to be a coordinator. He’s going to say, fire me and I’ll wait for my next head coaching gig or choose my next landing spot.
Scott Zolak: No. I’m saying bring him here as the head coach and playcaller.
Beetle: I don’t love that. You know how I feel about head coaches trying to call the plays, too. How about you focus on being the head coach and get an offensive coordinator that believes in the same things you believe in.
Scott Zolak: Oh, so you’re saying trade him straight up and then make him your coordinator and Jerod Mayo your head coach?
Beetle: No, I’m making him the head coach. I’m not putting Mayo in-charge over Daboll. Daboll comes here as head coach. One for one. You want Bill? Good. We’ll take your guy that you’re getting rid of prematurely. I’m in. I think it is crazy. It’s never going to happen. But I would absolutely do it if that’s on the table. Yes.
Scott Zolak: Bill for Daboll and a second round pick.
Beetle: I don’t need the two. I don’t care about the two.
T-Bone: You don’t want a first timer, but this guy’s only got two years of experience. Not even.
Beetle: Yeah, and that counts for something. Yes. He took over a team in year one. He got the most out of a crappy quarterback and won games. I don’t think their roster is very good.
