THIS stood out the most from Mac Jones in Week 1…
While Mac Jones has been getting a good amount of love for his play against the Eagles, it was his attitude after the loss that stood out most to the crew on Zolak & Bertrand.
This is a sign of maturity…
Marc Bertrand: Mac Jones was tough on himself after the game yesterday and I’m not even sure he was really tough on himself. I think he was maybe appropriately tough on himself after this game. A lot of people will point to his stat line in this game and say, oh, Mac was good yesterday. Mac had a good game. I appreciate the things that Mac Jones said after the game yesterday. I appreciate his attitude about this game yesterday. It’s the sign of someone who knows they can be better, wants to be better, wants to be great, all of those things. A real true competitor. I liked his postgame yesterday. I’ve seen some stories and some things written today that would indicate it was not necessary or it was over the top, or that it was ridiculous. I don’t agree with any of those things. Mac Jones put his team behind yesterday early and it came back to bite them.
Scott Zolak: Yeah, normally we get the stupid cliché from Mac Jones, right? Well, it’s super exciting… no I thought he told you exactly what he needed to tell you. I felt the same way. You gift-wrap seven points to that defense. One of the better defenses in the league, if not one of the top three. I said it right there during the broadcast. You’re chasing a mountain now. Now you’re going up a mountain. Now you’re chasing. The last thing you want to do is be chasing in this football game at home. And then it got to 16 and now it’s 16 zip. Like, oh man, this is something that this team really can’t overcome, that somehow they put something together to get the 16 to 14 create momentum, get buzz back in the stadium there at halftime. But man, there was that period where they had the ball with great field position. I think four or five of their drives started at the plus 43 or better. And there were three, three and outs and they only got one first down on one of those drives. To me, that’s your ball game. You get handgifted field position like that at home where the defense is playing their ass off. They punt, you’re there and then you have penalties. You go backwards or you have a bad throw or put the ball in the ground and it was a combination of the pick six and Zeke fumbling the ball on back to back plays, which put Philly right out in front early. But Mac’s right, didn’t do anything early in this game. You didn’t.
