Ty Anderson: Brad Marchand “a good pick” be the next Bruins captain
Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron called it a career on Tuesday after 19 seasons in the NHL. Following the announcement, Ty Anderson of 985thesportshub.com hopped on the midday show to share his thoughts on who should get the honors of becoming the next Bruins captain:
Ty Anderson on the Next Bruins Captain:
“I think it should be Marchand. I think that it’s possible that it could be McAvoy as well. I think McAvoy, and I mean this with no disrespect. I think he needs a bit more seasoning before he’s ready to take on that role. And I say that because, you know, as someone who covers the team, McAvoy can get really hot with the media when he has a bad game or when they lose and you don’t necessarily always want your captain to be like that kind of, I not saying hothead per se, but like, you’ve got to have that measured ,’everything is fine’ kind of approach mentally.”
“I think Marchand has kind of really mastered that these last few seasons. Listen, he’s prone to poking goalies in the head like you did with Tristan Jarry a couple of years ago, but ultimately he’s kind of gotten the crap out of his game, you know, like the the dirty, the licking, the slew footing, all that, you know, that’s kind of not necessarily there as much as it was, say, seven years ago. So I do think Marchand is a good pick.”
“You give him a couple of years and he also continues that natural identity, you know, from Chara to Bergeron to Marchand, like that mentality, that setting the tone in the locker room, how supposed to work, how you’re supposed to conduct yourself as a representative of the team. So I do think Marchand is the call, but maybe they want to go a little bit younger there with a McAvoy. I don’t think it’s Pastrnak and a guy who could be one but won’t be is Brandon Carlo. He’s their NHLPA rep but he but he’s probably not going to be it so I would think it’s going to be Marchand.”
