Beetle: I don’t trust that Bill Belichick is on the hot seat
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Beetle made it clear that he doesn’t trust any reports saying Bill Belichick is on the hot seat. All of this following Tom E. Curran’s recent nugget while appearing on the Rich Eisen Show.
Beetle wants it to be true…
Beetle: New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick going into the year is on the hot seat and there has been varying degrees of warmth on that seat in recent years. Do you buy it? I hope that everything he is saying is factual because in the NFL you’re not supposed to be able to live on your past success. And the NFL, as we know, stands for not for long. Right. All of those things apply in this league. That’s what I think makes this league special. That it churns and burns everybody. That’s what this league does.
Scott Zolak: There’s turnover in this league like you don’t know. Yep.
Beetle: And that applies to everybody. So few guys are able to escape that. And Bill, for the most part in his career, because he’s been so good here in New England, his teams have been so good that he’s escaped that and Tom Brady because he was so good certainly defeated time in the NFL. Right.
Scott Zolak: In fact, we’re finding out he was really, really, really freaking good. I mean we knew he was good, but he was really freaking good.
Beetle: It turns out Tom Brady got sick of just fighting time. He just got tired of it and walked away. It was like, oh, I’ve beaten you so badly. I could still keep beating the bag outto you, but I’m sort of tired of this, so I’m going to walk away. He could still be playing right now. He could still be employed and starting in the NFL and would rank in the top ten quarterbacks no problem in this league. He just got sort of tired of it and got to an age where he decided he wanted to be doing other things. That is so rare, but the rest of the league just gets burned up man and that applies to coaches. And so in any other situation, a team that has been a .500 team for several years would have a head coach who was certainly on the hot seat. I just have a hard time believing it. I do. I just have a hard time believing that they’re going to get to a point where they have a mediocre season, not a not a horrendous season, not a three or four win season, but just a mediocre season. And they fire this guy. I just can’t buy that. I think they’re loyal to him and I think they care about a record that the fan base couldn’t give two flips about.
