Bruins, Trent Frederic agree to new deal
Don Sweeney and the Bruins’ summertime housekeeping is starting from the bottom on up, as the team has signed forward Trent Frederic to a two-year, $2.1 million contract ($1.05 million cap hit).
Making Boston’s roster out of camp this year, Frederic totaled four goals and five points in 42 games this season, and was tops among all Bruins with 65 minutes in penalties.
Frederic tried to make the most of his ice time in 2021, too, and finished the regular season with the most penalties drawn per 60 (1.9) and fourth-most hits per 60 (7.74) among the 18 Boston skaters with at least 400 minutes of all-situation play.
But as the team changed the makeup of its fourth line following the acquisition of Curtis Lazar from the Sabres, Frederic fell out of frame and (almost surprisingly) did not suit up at all during Boston’s 11-game playoff run.
Drafted by the Bruins with the No. 29 pick in 2016, the 23-year-old Frederic has appeared in 59 games over three seasons, with four goals, an assist, and 87 hits to his name.
The 6-foot-2, 203-pound Frederic is the second Bruin to ink a new deal since the end of the team’s playoff run, with the team signing depth winger Anton Blidh earlier this month.
