Marcus Smart Agrees to Four-Year, $52 Million Extension With Celtics (Updated)
UPDATE: Shortly after this story was first published, Yahoo! Sports’ Shams Charania reported that Marcus Smart has agreed to a four-year, $52 million extension with the Celtics.
Marcus Smart and his agent, Happy Walters, are expected to meet with officials for the Boston Celtics on Thursday in hopes of finalizing a new contract for the restricted free agent guard. Yahoo! Sports’ Shams Charania was first to report the meeting via Twitter.
Smart, 24, originally believed he deserved a contract worth more than $12-14 million per season. Based on multiple reports, the likely range for his new deal is four years and a total of $46-52 million.
Extending Smart would give Danny Ainge and the Celtics more long-term security at point guard, where they are uncertain about the futures of both Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier.
