Where would the Boston Bruins be without the Toronto Maple Leafs?
The Boston Bruins were struggling going into Saturday nights matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, an overtime victory over the Leafs could be what gets the Bruins going. On Monday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger wonders where the Bruins would be without the Leafs.
Felger: For not the first time, and certainly not the last, the Toronto Maple Leafs have once again saved the job of the Bruins Head Coach.
Mazz: Unbelievable.
Felger: This happened last May or whatever it was, whenever the playoff series was against the Leafs. You blow a 3-1 lead, the clock is ticking on Jim Montgomery. If he loses game 7 he is done. They go to overtime, Toronto craps all over itself, Pastrnak scores in overtime in that playoff series, Montgomery lives to see another day. He is now teetering. He’s officially teetering. Bruins, leading late in that game 3-2, they give up a goal with a minute left, poor defense allows Auston Matthews, of all people, crash the net all alone. He ties it with a minute to go.
Mazz: You could see it coming.
Felger: You go to overtime. Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick on Jim Montgomery. There it is, once again, Maple Leafs Auston Matthews gives it right back to you and Jim Montgomery lives to see another day. I don’t know how many more he’s got in him.
Felger: But once again…just think where the Bruins would be this last 12 years if not for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They’d have like, one playioff series win! (I’m exaggerating a little bit) They’d have been through 5 coaches, not 3. (Again, I’m just making up these numbers), but you know what I mean. Where would they be without the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Mazz: They bail them out constantly. It’s like a get out of jail free card…invite Toronto in.
