Potential Celtics trade target off the board

A week ago, the Celtics were linked in a number of trade rumors to New Orleans Pelicans’ guard Jrue Holiday. On Monday night, another team ‘beat’ them to the deal.
As first reported Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pelicans are sending Jrue Holiday to the Milwaukee Bucks.
It’s unlikely the Celtics would have matched the high price the Bucks paid. They’ll send Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, three future first-round picks, and two future first-round pick swaps to New Orleans for Holiday, who is on an expiring contract.
Why would the Bucks give up so much for Holiday? It could be to keep their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo happy as he enters the final year of his deal. According to the New York Times’ Marc Stein, Giannis and the Bucks may be close to a deal, which gave them the leeway to make this trade.
As for the Celtics, there are still potential moves on the table. Gordon Hayward’s looming player option will likely be the first domino of their offseason to fall, but more moves could follow quickly.
