Scott Zolak: Bailey Zappe should start the rest of the season
On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Scott Zolak said it’s clear Bailey Zappe should start the rest of the season.
I don’t think it’s fixable…
Scott Zolak: You throw Pharaoh Brown in the game and after the whistle he’s blocking downfield 12 yards. Give me that effing guy every day. And he will catch anything you throw around him. He’s a big target. He’s one of the bigger guys on the team. I’m like, how do you not play this guy more? Oh because we got Mike Gesicki and we gotta get him in the game. Those days are over. I think now Pharaoh Brown plays. After yesterday, Pharaoh Brown plays. And we got on Mac pretty good yesterday for rightly so reasons, but it ain’t all on him. I got on Gesicki after that, there was one he dogged on the left flat and I’m like, you’re not giving him an effing chance. This is why he’s in the position he’s in, meaning Mac. Because I don’t trust the line. I don’t trust my receivers. They can’t get open. And now I even have my own issues. So now it’s like a collection of things where I don’t think it’s fixable right now and I think he needs to sit. I think Bailey Zappe should play the rest of the year because you’re at a point now where you pulled your starting quarterback 4 of 11 games. He has been sat 39% of those games that is dysfunctional.
Marc Bertrabd: 39% of the time Mac gets benched.
Scott Zolak: It’s not fair and I’ve lived it believe me. I was there in 1992, 1993, when these year comparisons start coming when you’re 2-9 and it sucks and you’re the backup. You don’t want to go in the game under certain circumstances. Like now you throwing me in, ice cold in the fourth to pick up the pieces. Oh, great. Like I said and I stand by it, give ’em a week of practice. Now you’re starting to find out that the reps weren’t split so much last week down the middle. Bill went on his interview today and said no, Mac got most of the reps last week.Do I have to say he’s starting? Everybody knows. They knew last week before we got on the bus to go down. Did they? Hunter Henry said they didn’t find out till right before the game. Now, I think this is also to the players understanding that Bill says he’s going to make the decision and until he verbally says it, we can’t comment on it. So we’re going to pretend that we don’t know either. And I respect the people that cover this team. All the beat writers are really good at what they do. I think we’re in a different market where sports matter and they do a good job at it. They were fed bad information.
