Kendrick Bourne on Matt Patricia as the OC: “It was just a questionable decision”
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, upcoming NFL free agent Kendrick Bourne stopped by and discussed Bill Belichick’s decision on handing over the offense to Matt Patricia and Joe Judge before the 2023 NFL season. Bourne went on to explain how the move could only be described as a, ” questionable decision”.
It was a questionable decision, as we all know…
Zolak: Your first year you had Josh is coordinator. Year two-something went wrong. Matty P took over, Joe Judge was the quarterback coach. How problematic was it not only for the team but for you personally as a player?
Kendrick Bourne: It was rough. I think that even the media world and the world was looking at it too, like what’s going on and we had the same questions too, like why? For me personally, I kind of fell victim to the situation to, as in asking why instead of focusing on myself and getting better. Struggling in 2022 man. So, came back in 2023 going hard because circumstances, and I became a better player from the situation. But it was just a questionable decision, as we all know.
Bertrand: Oh it was horrible. A horrible decision. I’ll say it for you. I can say it was a terrible decision.
Kendrick Bourne: So hopefully these next few years with the new OC(Alex Van Pelt), I think is a good fit too. I don’t know who he is, but, I think it’s different. I think it’s different, and bringing a West Coast type vibe. So we’ll see how that goes. But it was a crazy choice.
Bertrand: What do you like about being a Patriot and playing in New England?
Bertrand: I love the hard work. So I really felt good about Bill. Personally for me, I loved how he pushed me, and all those things. But the building itself, it wasn’t just Bill, it was the environment itself was very competitive. And, earn your keep, you know what I’m saying? The best players going to play, and I respect a team like that. You know, it’s not about money. It’s not about anything. It’s the best person that’s going to give us opportunity to win is going to play. So that was something I respected most about the organization.
