Phil Perry: Jim Nagy’s outlook on the 2025 NFL Draft is bad news for the Patriots
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston explained why Jim Nagy’s outlook of the 2025 NFL Draft is bad news for the Patriots.
Will anyone trade up for a quarterback?
Phil Perry:
Little scary. It’s thin and Jim Nagy’s job is to in some ways, you know not to overly hype up these players to an unrealistic degree, but to point out when there is talent maybe in places that you weren’t expecting and to point out that this is a game worth watching and you should be paying attention to it. You should be tweeting about it. You should be going to it and covering it every year. That’s part of his job.
And so, for Jim Nagy to be reluctant to heap praise on this crop of draftable players, I think says a lot. And to me, it’s bad news for the Patriots because I think there’s a very good chance the two guys that are blue chip guys are going to be gone by No. 4. Unless people get crazy with the quarterbacks and they just say, hey, the depth of this quarterback class is really bad and so we need to come away from this draft with a quarterback.
If that’s how you feel, maybe you feel like you got to trade up into the top three to get one of the top two guys.
Scott Zolak:
That’s going to happen. That’s going to happen because the class is so bad that teams are going to freak out and say they need to get one of the top 2 and that’s going to make them fly up the board.
Phil Perry:
I think that might happen and I think the way things went at the Senior Bowl, and obviously I wasn’t there, but it sounds like the quarterback play wasn’t all that inspiring.
