Albert Breer: Some question the personality fit between Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels
On Thursday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Albert Breer of SI and MMQB explained that he’s talked with some people who’ve worked with Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels and they question the personality fit between the two.
Both have strong personalities…
Tim McKone:
What do you make of that hiring? How did everything go down here in New England with Josh McDaniels coming back?
Albert Breer:
There were a few moving parts there. I do wonder if the Ben Johnson thing accelerating, accelerated the Patriots at all. Just because I think he might have been a consideration in Detroit to replace Ben Johnson. And if that had happened then, like now, maybe you’re scrambling a little bit more. So, does that force the decision-making? Maybe. Josh obviously has ties here and lives here, but he’s also got two kids that go to school in the Midwest. He’s from Cleveland, which isn’t far from Detroit. I think there would have been some appeal if Dan Campbell wound up making that call and there is some familiarity too.

Tim McKone:
What are the questions when it comes to this hire?
Albert Breer:
I had somebody who’s worked with both guys over the weekend question the personality fit and so like, I think that’s something that Mike and Josh are going to have to work on. I think they’re both sort of alphas and they both have very strong feelings on football. And so like, I do think that’s something that that’s going to be on the two of them. Again, I do know people, and I wound up talking to a couple more after that who did question if the personality fit is going to work.
