On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston explained why it’s critical for the Patriots to nail their coaching hires for the offensive line and wide receiver group.
You don’t want Josh McDaniels spread too thin…
Phil Perry:
I have a lot of respect for Josh McDaniels and his ability to coach every position. You don’t want him to have to coach every position and so to me it’s really critical that they get a couple hires that I think are yet to happen at both offensive line and receiver right. You must get those right because you really just need so much in the way of developing at least some of the people you have. You can’t entirely blow up both of those rooms going into next year. Yes, you’re going to add a lot more talent, you would hope. But you need to have good coaches there too, because you don’t want to have Josh McDaniels being the guy primarily in Drake Maye’s ear and coaching him up and getting him ready for year two, but also having him feel like he has to coach the line and having him feel like he has to coach the receivers because things aren’t getting done the way they need to get done. So, those two positions to me are really critical. I’ve gotten good reports on some of the people that they have hired in terms of, you know, filling out some of the staff.
