Marc Bertrand: Feels like the Patriots will be run like the Cowboys
On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand explained that it feels like the Patriots are going to be run like the Cowboys.
You should be panicked by this…
Marc Bertrand: Robin Glazier and Jonathan Kraft are going to run the football team. At least that’s what (Seth) Wickersham says. He’s got a pretty good track record on the drama and the nonsense inside the four walls at Patriot Place at Gillette Stadium. But that’s the way it might look going forward. And you know what? You read that on Friday and say, come on, this has got to be bullcrap. Are we sure about this? This is just the opinion of the football people. This hasn’t been confirmed by anybody. But then you start piecing it together over the weekend.
Phil Perry dropped the story on Saturday. I knew that he had it on Friday night, confirming with some additional sources. Wanted to make sure he got everything right before he put it out there on Saturday. And this is the tweet that he dropped on Saturday, and it made the rounds right away and has since been confirmed by other reporters. He wrote here’s what I’m told on the Patriots front office situation. They are not expected to bring in a new general manager. It’s anticipated by team sources that both Matt Groh and Elliot Wolff will remain with the organization and have prominent roles in personnel.
Then you saw Schefter on Saturday say, yeah they may not hire someone until after the draft. Schefter, that means you’re not hiring anybody. That means that list of candidates that was put out there by Ian Rapoport on Friday is nonsense. That means you’re not going to put anybody really in charge. You’re not going to have a voice that makes the final call. They’re going to go to the owner. It’s going to be like Stephen Jones working for Jerry. You got to go to them. Who do we draft? So, Elliot Wolff and Matt Groh are going to be in charge. Let me give you a scenario, Zo. Elliot Wolff says I don’t like the quarterbacks. Let’s get Marvin Harrison Junior at three. Matt Groh says you’re crazy, it’s Jayden Daniels. Who makes the call?
Zo: At that point, it’s Jonathan (Kraft).
Marc Bertrand: Oh, we don’t have one. Oh, well, I guess we gotta go call Jonathan and Robin, see what they say. We should be absolutely panicked by this. If you care about this team, this is something we mocked. We’ve mocked every other team in the league for 100 years for doing stuff like this. What? What is going on? There is a vacuum here and someone is going to have to stake out the power. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be anybody who’s been involved in football or a new GM or the new head coach. None of it is going to exist.
