How the Patriots are approaching the uncertainty at quarterback? David Andrews explains
Patriots center David Andrews joined Zolak and Bertrand on Wednesday as the team sits at 2-9 following their loss to the New York Giants last week. Andrews was asked about the quarterback situation, and more specifically the mindset of Mac Jones, who has now been benched four times over the course of the 2023 season, including on Sunday in The Meadowlands.
What is the mindset of Mac Jones right now?
“Well, I can’t speak to his personal situation. I know kind of going back to my rookie year when I was kind of in and out of the lineup toward the end of the year, I think you just try to be ready to go as much as possible. And there was games where I got rotated in, games I started, games where I didn’t play until the end of the game. So, you know, I think you never know what’s going to happen. Each week you go out there and get hurt the first series of the game and now this other guys pretty much put in the whole game. So you always got to be ready to go. And, you know, I think that’s something I’ve had a lot of respect for guys no matter what. It’s how they prepare each week, even if they’re playing or not. So, I think like I said, I can’t I can’t speak to his personal situation, but, I think Mac does a great job. He tries each week to come in and prepare as hard as it can. The kid works his tail off. So, you know, I always appreciate that.”
Does Andrews have to prepare differently due to the uncertainty at the QB position?
“No, I don’t think so. I don’t snap the ball any different. How I snap the ball is how I snap ball… It’s always just operate and work together. But it’s not like, you know, we’re going to block anything different with a different quarterback back there, you know what I mean? So, you know, I think people make a big thing about that preparation wise. But for the centers I really don’t think there’s much difference.”
