Mike Giardi: Kraft and Belichick remain unaligned on Mac Jones’ potential
During this morning’s Toucher & Rich radio program, Mike Giardi from Boston Sports Journal confirmed that, to his knowledge, there have been no calls on Mac Jones. However, he doesn’t rule out the possibility of future developments. He also doesn’t believe ownership and Bill Belichick might not be align when it comes to the 3rd year quarterback.

When asked about the price to move Mac Jones, Giardi suggests that it would take a first-round pick, emphasizing the Patriots’ commitment to their young quarterback. Rich questions if a second-round pick might suffice, but Giardi stands by his belief that it would take a first-rounder.
Mike Giardi believes that ownership sees potential in Jones despite his struggles. They point to moments during the season where Jones has shown promise and suggest that ownership believes he can be salvaged. Mike also suggests ownership and Bill Belichick might not be on the same page.
“Struggle is a strong word, but I don’t think they’re necessarily completely aligned with how things are going to unfold. I also believe that ownership examined last year and what transpired with Patricia and Judge being in charge of him, potentially setting him back—whether intentionally or not. Remember the way Bill embarrassed Mac Jones during that Monday night game against the Bears by benching him at halftime. Now, we’ve seen similar situations this year where he’s been taken out of games. Ownership feels there should be more potential, and indeed, they’ve witnessed glimpses of it this year, especially early in the season, such as in the game against the Bills. They believe he can still develop and contribute.”
Giardi made it somewhat clear that there’s still a divide in opinions about Mac Jones’ between Belichick and Kraft. While ownership seems hopeful, some observers like Fred remain skeptical of Jones’ abilities. The lack of a reliable backup quarterback only adds to the uncertainty surrounding the Patriots’ quarterback situation.
Mac Jones had a 19-of-29 passing performance for 161 yards, recording two touchdowns and one interception. The interception occurred late in the first half when the Patriots had an opportunity to level the score, proving to be a momentum-shifting moment in a game where both teams were in dire need of points. On the other hand, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 30 of his 45 passes for 326 yards, throwing three touchdowns and one interception. He sealed the victory with a crucial touchdown drive in the late stages of the fourth quarter against the Patriots.
New England set their sights on week 9, when they face the 3-5 Washington Commander, who lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-31.
