Mazz is impressed with the ability of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. However, he doesn’t want the team to rush it with Maye and start playing him earlier than they should be.

Mazz: So look, there's no question that Drake Maye is the more talented quarterback, I don't even think that that is close. And the more I watch him, the more I think I underestimated how talented Drake Maye is. The ability in this kid is tremendous. Now, I don't know if he's Caleb Williams, number one pick ability, but he's close. So the ability is indisputable.

Felger: Wow, you think he's close?

Mazz: He can throw . He can run. You know again, he can throw across his body, going right to left like he did last night. That throw he made early in the game on 3rd down I thought was a thing of beauty. So there were flashes that you look at and you say “wow”. It's so nice to see a quarterback in a Patriots uniform who has a legitimate NFL arm as opposed to Bailey Freaking Zappe and Mac Jones. Totally, totally different. So from that standpoint, it is so refreshing to see that kind of talent behind center in that uniform after the last few years.

Mazz: Now, why rush it? He's not all the way there yet. You can see it. There was one short pass he had last night, do you remember this?

Felger: Oh yeah,  he air-mailed.

Mazz: He overthrew the back by about 10 yards. It wasn't even close. So look, the promise is there. All the more reason to slow it down. And I say slow it down, don't rush it is really what I'm saying. Go at the pace you're going at. And given what's in front of them, if you're going to put them in there behind that quote unquote offensive line, you might as well just tar and feather them. He's gone, it's over. Like you're going to destroy him if you put him behind that line. Let them figure that nonsense out first and just keep going on the way you're going with him, because it's starting to show.
