Jarren Duran’s breakout season continues in 2024 MLB All-Star Game
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was named MVP of the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
While Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran took some big steps during the 2023 season, the 2024 campaign had been a true breakout year for the 27-year-old. Through 95 games Duran is hitting .284 while leading all of Major League Baseball in triples (10) and the AL in doubles (27).
Duran’s first-half performance was enough to earn him a spot in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night. In his first real chance on a national stage, Duran made the most of the opportunity.
His first chance came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when he replaced Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge in the lineup. Duran was batting with two outs, and a runner on first in a tied 3-3 game. In the at-bat, Duran took the second pitch he saw from Reds right handed pitcher Hunter Greene and hit it 413 feet into the right field bleachers.
Duran’s home run ended up being the game-winning hit, with the AL coming away with a 5-3 win. With that, Duran was named the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player.
This marks the fifth time a Red Sox player has won the All-Star Game MVP since the modern award was introduced in 1962. Duran joins Carl Yastrzemski (1970), Roger Clemens (1986), Pedro Martinez (1999), and J.D. Drew (2008).
Duran wasn’t the only Red Sox player to take part in the game Tuesday night. Tanner Houck pitched the third inning for the American League. He allowed three runs on four hits, including a home run to Shohei Ohtani.
