Where could a new arena get built in Boston?
If a new Boston Celtics owner wanted to build a new arena….where could it get built? Felger has an idea in mind.
Felger: We’ll just start off with the premise from Chris Mannix that a casino owner could buy it. So let’s say the Wynn group buys it and they’ve got land out there. They were going to build a soccer stadium there for the Kraft’s and the New England Revolution. And I think it’s right across the street from the main entrance, right?
Mazz: Correct.
Felger: OK. So that’s the site.
Jim Murray: Yup.
Felger: I think I have a better one. I forget what they call it now, and I say this with all the love and respect in my heart because I love the place. I love the place. It’s my favorite concert venue in town. I love the people that work there but it’s fast becoming underused. Leader Bank Pavilion….
Jim Murray: Ohh yeah.
Felger: The old Harbor Lights.
Jim Murray: There’s less shows than ever there, you’re right.
Felger: There’s like a there’s like a half dozen because all these other places, you know, MGM, and there’s like a million concert venues and so Harbor Lights is getting squeezed. And there’s not much going on down there. It’s a big plot of land. The Mass Pike lets out at the Seaport, 93 N 93 S lets out there…You wouldn’t know it, but like there’s a whole big dock kind of thing or like Wharf behind the arena, I don’t know what they use it for. Dry dock? I mean, I just have the map up so I know what it’s called. Boston Dry Dock 2. What’s out there like you could build an arena there. You could build a big parking garage underneath it. You might be able to build parking or something even out on that dock. Or you put this stadium out on that dock. I don’t even know how big it is, maybe it’s not big enough, but down there at Leader Bank Pavilion.
