Felger & Mazz: Bill Belichick to UNC would be sad
Would Bill Belichick going to the University of North Carolina to be the next head coach be sad? Felger, Mazz, and Jim Murray think so.
Felger: He could be signing as soon as today with UNC. Mazz, you have a thought?
Mazz: Yeah, I have one other little nugget related to it…I’m not convinced Steven Belichick is part of the staff.
Felger: Which is, why couch it when you say you have another nugget.
Mazz: Yes. Why couch it?
Felger: Yep.
Mazz: Because that I don’t know for sure.
Felger: The couching is by saying “I’m not convinced”, this is what you would say…
Mazz: No, I’m not convinced. I heard he might not be part of it.
Felger: You could also say “I just heard he’s out”.
Mazz: So I don’t know that he’s out. It’s iffy, but I’m not convinced that he is part of it. So the way I heard it is that that part might not be real. It might be fake. So let’s see how that shakes out.
Mazz: I personally would find it odd to hire a 72 year old coach who has a son who’s never been a head coach and we’re going to promise him the job after he’s gone.
Felger: Crazy, right?
Mazz: Yeah. So I personally think that’s nuts. I asked about it, OK. Now take that for what it’s worth. I didn’t go to North Carolina. I don’t have any like hardcore North Carolina sources, I’m just telling you that. I’m just telling you what I’m hearing. But I think that we’re going to hear within the next, maybe by the end of the day today or tomorrow, that Bill is going to be the head coach in North Carolina. That’s what I personally believe.
Felger: So sad.
Jim Murray: It’s so sad.
Felger: It’s pathetic.
Jim Murray: If both parties, himself and the school, are using each other for buzz, fine. Like I get it, he needs to pump himself up, so maybe there would be some interest from an actual NFL team and the school needs it. Again, the only thing anyone cares about down there is basketball for that school. But if he actually takes it, dude, you need it that bad? It taints your legacy. Just walk away. What are you doing?
Mazz: Sad. It is. It’s sad.
