Patriots add one player to active roster, one to practice squad
The New England Patriots made two moves on Tuesday, signing linebacker Ochaun Mathis to the active roster and wide receiver Braylon Sanders to the practice squad.
Tuesday was an off day for New England Patriots players, but the front office was busy. The team made two moves, signing linebacker Ochaun Mathis to the active roster and receiver Braylon Sanders to the practice squad.
Mathis, 25, was first signed by the Patriots to their practice squad after final roster cuts in August. He was promoted the maximum of three times, including last week. In those three games Mathis played mainly on special teams, recording one tackle.
The Patriots did not need to open up a spot on the active roster for Mathis. They had one open after trading away linebacker Joshua Uche on Monday.
To fill Mathis’ spot in the practice squad the Patriots signed Sanders. The 25-year-old entered the NFL as a UDFA out of Ole Miss in 2022, and spent his first two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. While Sanders was mostly on the practice squad, he appeared in three games as a rookie and caught two passes for 17 yards. The Dolphins released him after training camp this past summer.
Sanders is now the second receiver on the Patriots’ practice squad. He joins rookie UDFA John Jiles.
