Murray: 2024 Boston Olympics would’ve been a disaster
On Friday’s Felger & Mazz program, “Big Jim” Murray explains why Boston hosting the 2024 Olympics would’ve been disastrous.
Thank Goodness Boston Didn’t Host Olympics
Parts of conversation abbreviated for clarity.
Jim Murray: I just experienced a blood-boiling, expletive-filled, chest-tightening drive to the studio today. That commute also reminded me of the stupidest people on Planet Earth.
Do you know who those people are, Matt?
Matt McCarthy: I’m going to take a guess and say bikers.
Murray: Nope. They’re the people here in this area who are still mad that the city of Boston isn’t hosting the Summer Olympics right now. And they’re out there.
There was even an idiotic opinion piece in the Boston Globe just two days ago about this very topic.
*Mocking opinion-piece voice*
“Think of the progress the city would have made and how much more of an international city Boston would have become if we hosted the 2024 Summer Olympics.”
Wrong, wrong, wrong! We can’t handle it. We cannot handle it. And today and every goddamn day on these hell roads in both the city and the surrounding area prove it. We. Can’t. Handle. It.
There are too many people, and 98.5 percent of you have no idea how to drive. You have no idea what the hell you’re doing. You don’t use your signals. Your face is down in your f’ing phone. You don’t know how to drive. None of you know how to drive.
The roads are smaller than ever because of the aforementioned other idiots. And, you bike lane idiots. People who don’t even use the bike lanes. You, hobbyists.
You’ve got idiots crossing the roads willy-nilly on green lights, looking at you like you’re the bad guy when you lay on your horn and you verbally undress them.
*Mocking unaware driver voice*
“I’m just going to take my time willy-nilly across the road.”
It’s a green light! There are scooters, dirt bikes, ATVs, construction everywhere, and closed roads.
And some of you people are still out there today, mad that we don’t have the Olympics?
I said years ago that I wanted the F1 thing in the seaport. I wanted to boost the city’s status in the world for us to become more of an international city.
Let’s make Boston more like New York, shall we? No, those were the words of a younger, dumber me. The words of a moron.
