The Patriots have officially found their third kicker of the 2019 season, as the team will sign veteran kicker Nick Folk,
The #Patriots are signing free agent K Nick Folk, source said. Most recently, he held the AAF record for longest field goal at 55 yards. He’s also played for the #Bucs, #Jets and #Cowboys.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 29, 2019">per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.A veteran of 11 NFL seasons, the 34-year-old Folk was in Foxborough for a workout with the Patriots earlier this month, and most recently appeared in eight games with the Arizona Hotshots of the now-defunct AAF, and converted 12 of his 16 attempts, with a long of 55 yards, converted in a Week 6 meeting against the Orlando Apollos.
Prior to his run with the AAF, Folk last appeared in the NFL in 2017 on a four-game run with the Buccaneers that featured makes on just six of his 11 field goal attempts. Folk was especially woeful from the 40-yard and beyond, making just three of his seven attempts from such distances in that forgettable run with the Bucs.
But the 6-foot-1 kicker is familiar with Gillette Stadium from his time with the Jets, and has made 34 of his 44 career kicks in temperatures under 40 degrees, giving him a respectable 77.3 percent conversion rate.
Folk is a 80.3 percent kicker in his NFL career overall, and his best season came in a 2013 run with the Jets that saw him go 33-for-36 (91.7 percent), and with makes on 15 of his 17 attempts from 40 yards plus.
