David Andrews on Bill Belichick and UNC rumors: College game is much of different today
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Patriots center David Andrews touched on the rumors surrounding Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina.
It’s kind of interesting…
Tim McKone:
Alright, since we’re talking college football, we got reports out that Bill Belichick could be the next head coach at UNC. What do you think of the fit for your former head coach at the college level?
David Andrews:
t’s kind of interesting… I wouldn’t have had that in my, you know, if I was a betting man. I mean, look, he’s a great football coach. There’s no doubt about that. The college game has changed. You know, there’s a lot of similarities to the NFL now with contracts and NIL and the transfer portal. That stuff didn’t exist when I was in college. It was all about, you know, recruiting and different things like that. Now it’s more of what can you guys do for me financially and all that stuff. It’s a lot different. If it happens, I think it’ll be interesting to see, and you know what he tries to implement down there and the coaching staff he puts together. It’ll be interesting. I wonder if Drake’s coughing up any money. Making his donations.
Scott Zolak:
Oh my God. Drake Maye Day when comes back next year. Bill’s going to go and take all the Drake Maye pictures down. I’m kidding. See, but like most of the detractors were laughing at this and saying Bill’s never going to work with a modern-day NCAA with NIL and all that. I’m like this is perfectly built for him because he probably talked to Nick Saban and Saban said I don’t recruit anymore. We got our own people to handle the NIL. It’s almost two different staffs you need to have. It’s almost like a mini NFL team.
