David Butler II-Imagn ImagesJoe Milton spent nearly the entire 2024 season on the bench behind Patriots starting quarterback Drake Maye. However, he did get into one game, playing most of the Patriots' Week 18 game against the Buffalo Bills, when he played better than many had expected he would.
Following that Week 18 performance, Milton's speculated value around the league has been inflated. Some people believe that the former sixth-round draft pick could bring as high as a third-round pick in a trade -- in fact, the Patriots may not trade him for less.
"Sources closer to the situation than me expect the asking price of the Patriots to be a third-round pick," wrote Tony Grossi of WKNR. So Milton, who as a rookie was most often the Patriots' third-string quarterback out of the sixth round, has earned himself recognition as a high as a third-rounder.
Grossi did say it could be unlikely a team would be willing to go that high, especially because Milton would likely remain a backup even if he were traded. Nonetheless, the Patriots' presumed 2025 backup at least has some value if New England ever ventured to execute a trade.
