Patriots move on from disappointing wide receiver addition
The New England Patriots are cutting their losses with a player that didn’t work out for them.
As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday, the Patriots have informed wide receiver DeVante Parker that they are releasing him and he’ll now be free to talk to other teams. Parker is coming off a season in which he made only 33 catches for 394 yards and no touchdowns in 13 games.
MORE: Patriots re-sign WR Kendrick Bourne
According to Over The Cap, cutting Parker pre-June 1 will only open up $143,332 in additional cap space for 2024, but creates an extra $5 million for 2025. Parker is due $3.19 million in guaranteed salary, so the Pats will be paying him to play elsewhere.
The Pats are not totally flushing out their wide receiver room. They recently re-upped Kendrick Bourne and still have JuJu Smith-Schuster under contract. They’re also rumored to be making a push top sign free-agent wideout Calvin Ridley.
