Veteran forward Jabari Parker returning to Celtics
The split between the Boston Celtics and veteran forward Jabari Parker was a short one.
Just two days after the team waived Parker, the sides have reconnected on a new contract, according to the team.
Signed by the Celtics late last season, the 26-year-old Parker averaged 6.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 13.8 minutes over the course of a 10-game regular season with the Celtics.
Parker, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, also appeared in four postseason games during Boston’s first-series against Brooklyn, with 8.5 points points per game and a 61.9 field goal percentage over that run.
Parker’s return to the Celtics likely comes with a paycut to lessen the burden on the C’s luxury tax bill, and/or perhaps buys the Celtics more time on the guaranteed front, with Parker’s deal set to become guaranteed just before he was waived off the Green’s training camp roster.
The Celtics will open the 2021-22 season Wednesday night against the New York Knicks.
