Celtics make first post-trade deadline move
The Boston Celtics quickly filled an open roster spot after the trade deadline on Thursday.
As reported by Shams Charania, the Celtics are signing free-agent forward Torrey Craig, who was most recently with the Chicago Bulls. Craig, 34, played nine games for the Bulls in the 2024-25 season, averaging 6.9 points and 2.8 rebounds, before being waived on Feb. 3.
Craig is an NBA journeyman, as the Celtics will be his sixth team in eight seasons. His most productive campaign came with the Phoenix Suns in 2022-23, when he played 79 games (20 starts) and averaged 24.7 minutes, 7.4 points, and 5.4 rebounds. He’s a career 45.4% shooter from the field, 35.5% from three-point range, and 70.3% from the free-throw line. He amassed an excellent 137 offensive rating in his short time with the Bulls, while shooting 42.9% from three.

The Celtics needed to fill the open roster spot left by trading Jaden Springer to the Houston Rockets in a swap of draft picks within two weeks. The Springer move was a cost-cutting measure, saving the C’s $15 million against the luxury tax.
Craig gives the Celtics extra size and depth at the forward spots, and he may be able to pitch in the occasional three-pointer for Joe Mazzulla as well.
