Rookie kicker returns for second workout with Patriots
It’s not uncommon for the Patriots to workout numerous free agents over the course of a week. On occasion those players end up signing with the team, usually to the practice squad, but it’s rare for a player to return for a second free agent workout in a short span of time.
However, that’s the case for rookie kicker Riley Patterson. According to
“With Nick Folk limited in practice (left knee), the club could be looking for someone to pick up some of the practice slack,” Reiss noted. “Wouldn’t be a surprise to see Patterson land on p-squad in time.”
The Patriots already have two kickers in the building in Folk and rookie UDFA Quinn Nordin. Nordin has been on IR since Week 2 with an abdomen injury, but is eligible to return.
Patterson was considered one of the top kickers in the draft this past spring, and took part in the Senior Bowl back in January. A four-year starter at Memphis, he connected on 97.6 percent of his 246 field goal attempts in college. He went undrafted but signed with the Minnesota Vikings for training camp, but was released in late August.
