Bruins re-sign a pair of depth forwards to one-year deals
The Boston Bruins announced on Wednesday that they’ve re-signed forwards Cameron Hughes and Joona Koppanen to one-year, two-way contract extensions. Both were originally selected by the Bruins in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Hughes, 24, got the call-up to Boston for one game in each of the past two seasons. He most recently played 16:05 of ice time in the 2020-21 regular season finale against the Washington Capitals, in which the Bruins rested most of their regulars. Hughes played 25 games for the Providence Bruins, scoring five goals and 16 assists.
Koppanen signed his entry-level deal with the Bruins in 2017, and has played four seasons with Providence and with the Atlanta Gladiators in the ECHL.
Both Hughes and Koppanen signed two-way contracts, meaning they would be paid higher salaries when they play for Boston than they would in the minor leagues.
