The Bruins have called in reinforcements for a five-game road trip that kicks off Thursday night in Vegas, with winger Fabian Lysell and defenseman Michael Callahan recalled from AHL Providence.

Both Lysell and Callahan, who are both with the team as emegency recalls, participated in Tuesday's practice at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton ahead of the team's flight out to Vegas.

For Lysell, the call back to Boston comes in the midst of a campaign that's included 11 goals and 34 points in 51 AHL contests, along with two goals and five points in his last six outings for Providence.

"The reports from Providence are all positive as far as his game down there," Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco said when asked about Lysell's latest recall to the NHL. "Not just offensively but his 200-foot game, his play away from the puck, his ability to stay on pucks, the things that we need to see from some of the young players. It's good that he's getting an opportunity here."

Sacco did not specify when Lysell would get into action during the upcoming five-game road trip for the Bruins, which will begin in Vegas on Thursday before rolling through three dates in California, and concluding in Detroit on Mar. 29, but did note that he would get in at some point during the trip.

For Lysell, this is the second NHL recall of his career, and comes after making his NHL debut for the Bruins in a Dec. 28 win over the Blue Jackets at TD Garden. Lysell was a plus-1 in that game, and used his speed to get in on the forecheck and draw two Columbus skaters to him en route to a Boston goal.

"Yeah, obviously you want to stick around," Lysell, who has played 161 AHL games over the last three seasons, admitted. "I thought I played pretty good, but it is how it is and now I'm back."

Lysell feels like he's gotten stronger this season, and that's his winning more battles. There's also ample opportunity for him right now, in theory, with Vinni Lettieri (zero goals and one assist in six games since being recalled from Providence) currently skating as a top-nine right wing for this team.

On Tuesday, the Bruins gave Elias Lindholm a maintenance day off the rink, putting Lysell to the right of a line that featured Jakub Lauko at left wing and Marat Khusnutdinov at center.

The 6-foot-2 Callahan, meanwhile, returns to the Bruins having played 11 games for Boston this season. The Franklin, Mass. native posted four hits and 10 blocks over that 11-game run with the Big B's, and gives the Bruins a seventh defenseman for their five-game trek on the road.

The Bruins hit the road three points out of the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, and on the heels of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Sabres.
