The brown and gold threads will obviously pay tribute to the team’s uniforms from the 1930s.
Highlighting the throwback look, the crest features the classic “B” logo from the team’s Home & Away jerseys, created with a two-layer felt application. To complete the theme, the player names and numbers feature two-layer felt materials. The jersey also includes a list of the years that the team has won the Stanley Cup (1929, 1939, 1941, 1970, 1972, and 2011) on the inside neck. Each championship year has been set within a shamrock, too, as a nod to Notre Dame.
The 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic marks the third time in the 11-year history of the event that the Bruins will have participated and the third time a special jersey has been created.
In the 2010 NHL Winter Classic, the Bruins wore a gold jersey with a rounded Spoked-B, reminiscent of the inaugural Spoked-B from the 1948-49 season. In 2016, the Bruins wore a jersey reminiscent of the Bruins first-ever sweater from the inaugural 1924 season, which featured a primary logo of a bear in between the words ‘Boston’ and ‘Bruins.’
The Bruins are 1-1-0 in Winter Classic contests, and this will be their first time as the away team.
