Christian Barmore cited after traffic stop in Providence
New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore was cited following a traffic stop in Providence on Wednesday morning. Barmore took to social media to react after the incident.
Early Wednesday morning in Providence, New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore was pulled over and cited for multiple traffic violations. According to the Providence Police Department report (which can be read in full here), “the interaction was initiated at 12:53 a.m. when Barmore drove a matte gray Jeep Grand Cherokee past a marked cruiser…Officers noted window tint on his vehicle and a plate cover that didn’t allow clear viewing of a temporary registration plate.”
The report further states that Barmore “came to a “slow rolled” stop. The report clarifies that police officers believe this is a tactic used by drivers to hide contraband. During the stop, the report notes “police observed [Barmore] reaching under the seat attempting to conceal an object.”
Barmore was cited for operation of an unregistered vehicle, a display of plates penalty, and driving with an expired registration. The report notes that Barmore’s registration expired last week.
Shortly after the interaction, Barmore posted on Twitter/X “I just experienced for the first time 5 Providence cops being very unprofessional racism at its finest.” The post has since been taken down.

Police say officers found “an ash cup along with what appeared to be a blunt rolled with an unknown substance where he was seen reaching under the seat. Under the passenger side seat, we found what appeared to be several tubes filled with marijuana.” Marijuana is legal in Rhode Island.
“During this interaction Barmore had an attitude towards police and when requested for proper paperwork for the vehicle he then handed it over in an aggressive manner to police,” the report states, adding that Barmore “proceeded with giving police an attitude and asked for a ticket.”
Barmore later left the scene in a black Dodge Challenger, according to police. The summons was issued to Barmore and left in his car, which was towed.
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said during his Wednesday morning press conference the team is aware of the interaction. “We’re aware of the situation. I had a conversation with him this morning,” Mayo said. According to MassLive, Barmore was at the Patriots’ facility on Wednesday.
Barmore is currently on injured reserve, after being diagnosed with blood clots this summer. Last week, Mayo had noted Barmore was making encouraging progress towards returning to play at some point.
