New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore will be out for the foreseeable future as he deals with blood clots, the team announced on Sunday.

Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore will be out indefinitely, the team announced Sunday evening. Barmore is dealing with a blood clot issue according to the team, which didn't give a timetable for his return.

"Over the weekend, Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots," the team said in a statement. "He was appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian. Our principal concern at this time is Christian’s health and wellbeing. Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best healthcare in the world. While there is no current timetable for his return, we know Christian is getting tremendous care and we look forward to his full recovery.”

This news comes after Barmore was not on the field for practice on Sunday. He started Day 1 as a full participant but was limited late, was limited fully on Day 2, and did not take part at all on Day 3 on Friday (although he was on the field).

Barmore, who turned 25 on Sunday, signed a four-year, $92 million contract extension with the Patriots in the offseason. He had a career year in 2023, and was set to play a key role for the Patriots this upcoming season.

In 2019, Patriots center David Andrews was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs during training camp. He ended up missing that entire season, but returned in 2020 and has played four seasons since.
