Chase Winovich reacts to jump in playing time in Patriots’ win over Jets

Chase Winovich finally saw an uptick in playing time on Monday night against the Jets, as the Patriots edge rusher took the field for 31 defensive snaps (67 percent).
Though Deatrich Wise (36 snaps) and John Simon (35 snaps) still out-snapped Winovich, it was a big jump from the five defensive snaps the sophomore out of Michigan played last week against the Bills. Winovich raised some eyebrows when he said in his last interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Zolak & Bertrand: “Yeah, to be honest sometimes I don’t really quite understand the gameplan, in terms of what goes into it and the snap count and all that stuff. But that is what it is and the past three weeks have been a challenge, for sure. But it’s easy making plays for me, it’s tougher to kind of be idle while that goes on.”
Winovich tightened his lips a little more after the Patriots’ win over the Jets, in which he logged five total tackles. But he still couldn’t help but mention the G-word.

“Yeah, I can’t really speak much about the gameplan, but it was just part of the gameplan,” Winovich said. “I guess you giveth and you taketh, and I knew I had to be better on some of my fundamentals and assignments and just basic football things.
“It was a great opportunity for me to go out there and display some of that. I’m just happy we got the team win and I can contribute in a positive way.”
It’ll be interesting to see how much Winovich is used this coming Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens, who figure to run the ball a lot more than they pass it. And as it’s become every week, it’ll be interesting to hear what Winovich has to say when he joins Zo & Beetle.
